As per statistics Russia keeps firmly the place among first ten countries in respect of alcohol consumption. According to World Health Organization when the level of alcohol consumption is exceed 8 liters of pure alcohol per capita this challenge is pose a national hazard. Nowadays in Russia this level is twice more, up to 18 liters per capita per annum in average. Many cases were noted when not one person suffered from alcohol abuse but all family. The problem of alcohol abuse hands down from generation to generation during many years and there’s no opportunity to break this way. This tragedy is mostly typical for outlying regions and the farther from business and financial centers, the problem is deeper. The problem of alcohol abuse had also been very topical in USSR, but after Soviet Union had been broken up it was much increased. The most part of population was not ready to self-dependency and to new life realities. The lack of actual government support, the problem of unemployment did not contribute to find the way out. Many people couldn’t find the way to change old way of life and began to seek consolation in alcohol. Moreover, the market supported the growing alcohol demand – the president of Russian Federation Boris Yeltsin repealed the government alcohol monopoly by Presidential Edict in June of 1992. Nevertheless, this monopoly was restored one year later, there were already too many independent manufacturers on the market and it was practically impossible to take their activity under government control. As a result of it a huge amount of false and surrogate alcohol beverages appeared on the market. This kind of alcohol could cause health hazards and very often was a reason of death. Apart from this, availability of the alcohol much increased in last twenty years due to low prices. Nowadays in Russia beer is not licensed as an alcohol drink what leads to quite low price. Teenagers start to consume alcohol from beer and further change over to strong drinks. The production of vodka and beer grows from year to year. At that, titular ethnic groups suffer most losses on the “theatre of alcohol war” – the highest level of alcohol consumption is among the population of Central-European part of Russia. A lot of heinous crimes heavy traumas and cases of suicide happen under effect of taking alcohol. But the production of vodka grows from year to year. The Balashov Narcological Clinic in the Saratov region is one of many clinics scattered all over the Russia. Its name is well known, but not many people are aware of what is inside. The impression of lightness, which alcohol gives in the beginning is a deadly trap; the feeling of freedom is false. Insensibly true values are vanishing being sacrificed to the booze. The alcohol awareness is neglected. Everyone thinks that the biggest misfortune falls on others and not on you. Many of them have already experienced the terrible tortures of delirium tremens attack but they just have no guts to stop drinking. Some of these people don’t know any other kind of life as very often the entire families drink habitually, from generation to generation. I felt the fear when the man, who had sat near me and told about his life and his hopes, few hours later started to squirm in convulsions of delirium tremens. Somebody had known in advance what terrible tortures they would feel because it was not in first time with them, but they have already had no power. Narcological Clinics in Russia are the institutions which give the medical assistance to the people suffering from alcoholism, make the registration and keep them under further control. Today in Russia more than 2,000,000 people had a diagnosis alcoholism, there of 300,000 are women, more then 100,000 – teenagers. There are hundreds of thousands patients who have passed delirium tremens. There are a lot of problems in our life but this is one of the most important. The society must to struggle for each of these people to return them back to normal life.
